This is the Quarto website and project for an analysis looking into the salaries and cost of living for teachers across Texas. This project is in association with Texas Newsroom/KUT. The questions come from a proposed bill that would give more funding to teachers in specific-sized school districts (unclear exactly which ones).

This project was created by Karina Kumar on March 3rd, 2025 for the Media Innovation Group.

Our questions:

• How are teachers doing now re: buying power compared to the last several years (using salary and cost of living)?
• And are rural teachers really doing worse?
• Will the bill fix the problem it says it will?
